The trek

Overview

Phulara Ridge is one of Uttarakhand's finest ridgeline treks: from Sankri, you spend two full days walking an open ridge at 3,500–3,700m with a 270° mountain panorama, Swargarohini, Bandarpunch and the Har Ki Dun peaks as constant companions. Most treks briefly visit ridges — Phulara Ridge is the ridge, and that's genuinely unique in Indian trekking.

Right for you if

  • You want a long walk along an open ridge with Swargarohini in view
  • You can walk 5–6 hours a day with a daypack
  • You'd like to pair it with Kedarkantha: both start from Sankri

Think twice if

  • Wind and fast-moving cloud on an open ridge make you nervous
  • Long drives make you sick: Dehradun to Sankri is 8–10 hours each way
  • You want dense forest and rivers: most of it is above the trees

Dehradun to Sankri, about 200 km and 8 to 10 hours

Most operators run a shared pickup from Dehradun early on day one. Arrive the evening before so a late train or flight doesn't cost you the trek, and keep a buffer day at the end: mountain roads close for landslides and snow. Travel times are approximate.
